The President of the Hellenic Competition Commission and President Emeritus of the Greek Council of State, Ms. Irene Sharpe, participated in the 10th Delphi Economic Forum, in a discussion titled “Competitiveness and Democracy: A Complex Interrelation”, with journalist Ioanna Mandrou.
Ms. Sharpe highlighted the crucial role of competition in strengthening democracy and economic development, emphasizing that independent competition authorities contribute significantly to safeguarding institutional balance and promoting innovation.
She stressed that the Hellenic Competition Commission operates independently and impartially, imposing substantial fines on both Greek and multinational companies, which are then forwarded to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) for collection. She also underscored that the Commission ranks among the leading competition authorities internationally, proving that it can stand on equal footing with its European counterparts.
