The Plenary Session of the Hellenic Competition Commission (HCC) will meet on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, to examine the notified merger, according to article 6 par. 1 of law 3959/2011, by the company "Olympia Group Ltd" concerning its acquisition of sole control over “Media Saturn Electronics Hellas Commercial and Holding SA” and “Media-Saturn Griechenland Beteiligungen GmbH”, with the aim of ultimately acquiring sole control over the business of retail stores of electronic and electrical consumer goods operating under the brand name “Media Markt” in Greece.
According to the Statement of Objections (SO) of the General Directorate of Competition, the notified acquisition should be approved, as there are no serious doubts with regard to its compatibility with the functioning of competition in the relevant markets concerned, primarily in the broader electronics and electrical appliance industry and other markets in which all parties of the merger are active (such as the retail sale of computing, gaming, books, games and stationery).
It should be noted that the SO is not binding for the Hellenic Competition Commission, which will decide after taking into account all relevant evidence and the views of the parties involved.
