On 06 September 2023, a trilateral working meeting was held between the Presidents of the Hellenic Competition Commission, the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus and the Egyptian Competition Authority, at the latter’s premises in Cairo.
The trilateral meeting was held at the invitation of the Chairman of the Egyptian Competition Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Momtaz, to the President of the Hellenic Competition Commission, Mr. Ioannis Lianos, on the occasion of the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Egyptian Competition Authority and the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus, which took place on the same day at the premises of the Egyptian Competition Authority in Cairo. It is noted that the Hellenic Competition Commission maintains a close cooperation with the Egyptian Competition Authority also in the context of the Memorandum of Partnership that was signed between the two Authorities on 4.10.2022.
The ceremony for the signing of Memorandum of Cooperation was attended by the Chairman of the Egyptian Competition Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Momtaz, the Chair of the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms. Eva Pantzari, Mr. Aristos Aristidou Palouzas, Member of the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms. Olga Droussioti-Papachrysanthou, Director of the Service of the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikolaos Zaimis, Head of Trade Section at the EU Delegation to Egypt, Mr. Aristodimos Assiotis, Administrative Officer, Attaché of the Cypriot Embassy in Egypt and Mr. George Fokas, Commercial Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Egypt.
This trilateral meeting, which had as its object a discussion on the enhancement of cooperation between the Competition Authorities of the three countries, mainly by providing mutual update on legislative developments, decisions and competition enforcement procedures, cooperation in the transfer of know-how and implementation of joint projects, represents another important step forward in enhancing the HCC’s international activity and outreach.
